In university, we had to compile a thesis on any given topic, provided it related to education in some way.
The focus of my topic centered around art and the the whole nature vs nurture theory- are kids born with artistic talent or is it something that we can teach them and they can learn and develop. it was during the course of this thesis that I was introduced to Betty Edwards and her famous book, Drawing on the Right Handside of the Brain. Edwards discusses in this book how to teach people to draw. She goes into amazing detail on how the brain works and various exercises on how to teach people to look. This book is something that not only inspired my thesis but my teaching as well.
I have made and adapted many of Edwards ideas and activities to my classroom and seen many fantastic results- especially from learners who are very left brained and feel that they can't draw.
You will probably find that a lot of my activities in this blog stem from her ideas.
If you have never heard of her she is worth checking out! here is her website: http://www.drawright.com/
