We have been in our house for 5 years now (on and off- if you know our history) but ever since we moved here I have been determined to have a veggie garden in my courtyard. i have tried to do it various ways or short cuts and this has been quite an adventure to finally get to where I want to be. So this little blog here is about my process!
When we first moved in the courtyard was a stretch of bricks. From there we decided to build this large boxed in area to plant our stuff.

As most wooden items go... in the rain... to rot. this potting system didn't work. Besides the fact that the wood wasn't doing so well I decided that it created limited space for me to plant anything besides herbs.
My main issue was, which Im sure most people have is the issue of not wanting to spend too much- in this economy we want cheaper solutions.
I think this actually was the main reason for putting this off as long as I did.
I debated many idea- wooden path ways, concrete slates and decided that the best idea possibly was to use the materials I had available- the bricks. I pulled all the bricks up and then relaid them creating a checker-block effect to allow for space in between for plants to grow.

I then placed an old pallet as a trellis for plants to grow up on the wall.
I then began my planting and positioning. It was a slow process, much to my dislike. As I like to start and finish a project in one go but sometimes things are worth waiting for. And bit by bit I began planting and adding gravel as I went.
